Why use a wood stove ?

With a wood stove, you don’t have to rely on local businesses to find gas cartridges.

No need to carry gas cartridges in advance or lose any time to go down the valley to find a hypothetical shop that will have the right gas cartridge. You are independent.

Just bend down to find in a few minutes a handful of branches, twigs or dry stems.

In the forest, it’s easy, there is dead wood everywhere. But then, look around you: there is always wood!

Even in the city: in a park naturally, but also a crate, a crate or a pallet left by a merchant, in the bushes that separate the sidewalk from the road, on the lawns around store parking lots

In the countryside, at the entrance to the fields along the hedges, you can quickly find wood (and good camping spots).

By the sea, among the waste that the sea brings back, there are always a few pieces of driftwood. Dried seaweed on the beach can also be used as fuel! In the bed of a river, the last flood brought down and dried up dead branches in full sun.

In the mountains, you will have to think about making a small reserve of wood in the thickets if you plan to sleep at high altitude, where there is no more vegetation.

A wood stove can be very light!

My small wood stove FERZIL 9 weighs 100 gr round. Some gas stoves are lighter, but if you add the weight of a gas cartridge, it’s immediately much heavier.

UAn average size gas cartridge weighs 380 grams. Its autonomy is about a week. My Ferzil 9 10 and 13 re lighter than a single gas cartridge and their autonomy is infinite.

Small solid or liquid alcohol stoves are very light but their power is limited. By adding the weight of the fuel, this solution is quickly as heavy as Ferzil 9, which will make a more powerful fire possible.

A wood stove is more enchanting than a gas stove.

A wood stove, in addition to cooking your meal, can warm you up. We rest in front of the crackling fire. We relax by watching the flames dancing.

A wood stove is secured.

Compared to a campfire, the amount of wood consumed is much lower. The fire is much smaller and lasts only as long as necessary. The stove keeps the fire in the fireplace. It’s no more dangerous than a gas stove. Whether it is gas or wood burning, if the stove is overturned and you have not taken care to exclude everything that burns, the result will be the same. Regardless of the type of stove, you must stay in front to monitor the kitchen.

A wood stove respects nature.

A wood stove ensures that no trace of your passage is left. Of course, you leave your bivouac clean. You didn’t need to burn a wooden wheelbarrow to cook 1 kg of pasta. But also, you did not consume any gas of fossil origin and you did not throw away any single-use packaging.

A wood stove can be complementary to a gas stove.

You don’t know how much gas there is left in the cartridge that has been started, and you decide to take a second gas cartridge beforehand? Instead, you can very well take a wood stove. When the situation lends itself well to making a fire, you use the wood stove. If you are in a natural park or a four-star campsite where fires are strictly prohibited, or if you want to go quickly, take out the gas stove.

Gas canisters are prohibited on aircraft. Once landed on site, instead of wasting time finding a store that has cartridges, you start your trek using the wood stove. You will find a cartridge on the way. If your gas cartridge is empty a few days before you leave on the plane, there’s no need to look for a store to buy another one; a wood stove will help you out so you can eat warm.
